Winter 2012: Principles of Vineyard Management
(Online)

This is a non-credit online course that covers the main components of vineyard production from design to pest and disease management. Online participants will learn jointly with the upper division students at Oregon State University who are taking this course as part of the BS Degree in Viticulture and/or Enology. This course provides professional development for those industry members seeking continuing education or for those new to vineyard/wine production. Focus will be placed on the importance of making informed management decisions in the vineyard by also understanding the grapevine physiology and vineyard economics.

This course is offered online to industry or the general public from January – March 2012. Course content will encompass the “how and why” of vineyard management practices, focusing on physiological vine effects and economic considerations used in these practices. Participants are encouraged to think critically about practices and make informed decisions based on case studies and research presented throughout the course.

Testimonials
Feedback from previous course participants is provided below from participants in the online program from the Pacific Northwest, West and beyond.

What can I say, it was a great course. I learned a great deal and am stimulated to research and try other management styles within our vineyards and better record data from our different blocks to make more informed decisions.”

“I can’t begin to tell you how much I’ve learned from this course and how much I enjoyed taking it. The level of detail and complexity were perfect for my background.”

“ This is an excellent lecture series. The core study material was very informative, while the additional material added additional depth. The combination of live online lecture/lecture notes and the recorded lectures worked well together, enabling me to make up missed classes due to work, and review/clarify parts of the lectures that I may have poorly understood. Excellent tool!”
